Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our finance team. The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in supporting the Controller in managing the company's financial activities, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. This position requires a strong background in property management accounting and a solid understanding of real estate financial principles. Key Responsibilities: Assist the Controller in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close processes. Prepare and analyze financial statements, variance reports, and budget-to-actual comparisons for multiple properties within the portfolio. Collaborate with property managers and leasing teams to ensure accurate and timely recording of property revenues and expenses. Maintain fixed asset records and reconcile capital expenditures to budget. Manage the annual budgeting process for assigned properties, working closely with property management teams to forecast revenues, expenses, and capital needs. Support the Controller in implementing and maintaining effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations. Assist with external audits and tax filings, providing documentation and explanations as needed. Stay updated on industry trends, accounting standards, and regulatory changes affecting property management accounting practices.

Job Requirements

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred 3+ years of accounting experience in the property management industry. Proficiency in property management software (e.g., Yardi, MRI) and advanced Excel skills. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and integrity. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of GAAP and experience with financial reporting requirements for real estate entities.
